Fly Fishing the Skinny Water

One of my favorite hobbies is fishing, ever since I was very small I have enjoyed fishing. When I was about 18 years old my Uncle Robert Eves generously introduced me to fly fishing. I was instantly hooked. A new challenge far greater than getting trout to strike out at a shining flash of a spinner happening by. Fly Fishing involved a new twist, the creation of the fly – which consisted of tying string and feathers onto a hook in an attempt to imitate an insect or larva. The idea was to create a fly that represented one of the many natural foods found in the fishes habitat. Fly tying is an art form in and of itself but it adds up to one of the most challenging sports of man vs. nature. Stalking the fish in crystal clear waters and presenting the tied fly in a most natural manner can produce amazing results.
The picture above was taken in the upper portions of Secret Creek. A small trickle that grows into a respectable stream where some of the most beautiful native Utah trout reside. There were no trophies caught on the creek, but every single trout was magnificent and brilliantly colored. The largest fish we caught that trip was just under 14 inches but we caught plenty of fish and enjoyed the surroundings immensely. I have been back other times, but none were the same as that first magical time with just me and my Uncle Robert.
