My First Cell Phone
We all remember the “Brick” cell phones of the early days. I think that was my first cell phone that I ever actually used. I was working as a delivery driver for a local Lumberyard and the phone was used when we got lost or needed help from the yard with an address. Motorola was the only choice in the first few years of cell phones thanks to the advanced thinking of Dr. Martin Cooper. Thank goodness they figured out a few better cell phone designs since then. Another boost to the cell phone market was the entrance of competitors like Nokia and Qualcomm.
The first cell phone that I owned was the Kyocera model 2235 with the sexy blue screen. I signed up for service from a local cell phone provider that was just starting up and was fairly happy with the service and the phone. Sometimes I long for the good old days when they made a cell phone that was just that “a cell phone”. Nowadays they try to cram several products into the same package. The camera phone is still a joke to me, Even at 1 megapixel the photos are so grainy that any hope of detail is out of the question. My Kyocera was a solid phone until I took it swimming with me. I often wonder what the true life span of a cell phone really is. I seem to break my cell phones before they ever die of natural causes.
